Submergence Gloucester (2025)

A magical space for everyone to explore, play, and connect
Submergence is returning to Gloucester this summer.

Squidsoup are excited to bring Submergence back this year. A joyful creative project made especially for communities and young people in the heart of the city.
At the centre of the project is Submergence, Squidsoup’s award-winning immersive installation made up of hundreds of suspended lights. Step inside and you will be surrounded by a sea of colour, sound and gentle motion. It’s calming, beautiful, and designed to be enjoyed by everyone.
“It’s magical. My child struggles with loud, busy spaces, but here she was calm, curious, and smiling.” – Parent, 2024 visitor
This year we are creating a welcoming space for local families and young people and children with special educational needs. We are developing a new programme of live performance created with and by young disabled participants. Our creative sessions will continue to grow confidence and inspire imagination in a safe, inclusive setting.
Last year over 10,000 people visited, and more than 79 young disabled participants took part in our activities. The response was incredible, and we can’t wait to do it all again.
“This was the first art experience I’ve felt was made with us in mind. It was beautiful and we felt welcome.” – Participant from last year’s programme
“It made me feel peaceful, like I was somewhere else for a bit. I want to come back tomorrow.” – Young visitor, 2024
Once again, we’ll be transforming an empty space in central Gloucester into a glowing, inviting world where people can slow down, connect, and experience something unforgettable.
Come and explore. Everyone’s welcome.
