Circular Echoes (2022)
A symbol of completeness, wholeness, the centre⦠or a boundary. An endless line with no beginning or end; is it the journey itself, a representation of freedom, or is it the border across which we cannot travel, the fence that surrounds us?
Circular Echoes is a circle of light with many moods. Calm and tumultuous, touchable yet distant, contained yet infinite, liminal, transgressable. Its 36 orbs emanate light and sound, together creating a choreographed whirling, spatialised, immersive audio-visual symphony. The piece can be experienced from inside or outside the circle, each vantage point giving a unique perspective on the work and the composition.
Circular Echoes is part of the Echoes Series of Squidsoup works, that explore the use of form, and spatialised sound and light, in more intimate and contemplative settings.
A variant of Circular Echoes was first shown as part of the Deliaphonic Festival in Coventry UK (3-6 March 2022. Deliaphonic images: Ben Cook).
